A new headache after a collision deserves careful attention. Headaches may accompany neck injury, but some symptoms require urgent medical evaluation.
Start with appropriate screening
We review the collision, symptom onset, associated neck pain, neurological symptoms, prior headaches, and relevant medical care. If the presentation is not appropriate for chiropractic care, we recommend referral or co-management.
Know the warning signs
Seek urgent or emergency care for a sudden severe or worsening headache, loss of consciousness, repeated vomiting, confusion, seizure, slurred speech, unusual drowsiness, weakness, or vision changes.
